Learning Outcomes |
In accordance with the mission of LSC-PA, SRGT 1405 Intro to Surgical Technology assists the student to develop the particular skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for success as a surgical technologist. Upon successful completion of the course, the student should be able to: 1. Explain the physical, interpersonal, and ethical aspects of operating room environment. 2. Relate basic concepts of surgical pharmacology and anesthesia 3. Identify basic concepts of technological sciences 4. Identify and demonstrate patient care concepts. 5. Exhibits comprehension of content-area reading material. |

Program Student Learning Outcomes |
Upon completion of the Surgical Technology Program graduates will be able to: 1. Use appropriate terminology related to anatomy and physiology, suturing, accessory equipment and specialized equipment associated with surgical procedures. 2. Operates as a surgical technologist in the scrub role during all basic surgical procedures. 3. Demonstrate a surgical consciousness that promotes maintenance of a sterile field. 4. Practice within the legal and ethical framework of the surgical technologist. 5. Demonstrates comprehension of content-area reading material. |

Final day to drop a course or withdraw without academic penalty is September 30, 2019 Final day to drop a course or withdraw with penalty is November 21, 2019 Truman Hare CST will be our Clinical Coordinator His phone number is 409.454.0750 During the first semester of the Surgical Technology Program a "75 EXAM AVERAGE" must be achieved before going to the first clinical location. If a student is not passing the courses of SRGT 1405 and SRGT 1409 with a "75 EXAM AVERAGE" then that student will not be allowed to go to clinical and will be dropped from the program. |

Attendance Policy |
1. Because poor attendance is a leading reason for termination from a job in all areas of employment, attendance at all scheduled classes is expected. 2. A student who is absent from course activities for more than three (3 ) days may be dropped from the program by the Program Director. 3. Students on campus but not in class are considered absent. 4. Late arrival to class is disruptive. Students who consistently arrive after the beginning of the class (2 or more times) will be counseled and a plan of corrective action determined. Class will begin promptly at the scheduled time. Students who arrive fifteen (15) minutes after the beginning of class should not enter the classroom and should wait until break to enter. 5. It is the students responsibility to notify the instructor of any absence. If the student is unable to contact the instructor(s), the student should call 409-984-6356 or 1-800-477-5872 ext. 6356. The student should also email the faculty or call the faculty office and leave a voicemail. 6. Students who arrive after an exam starts, but before it ends, may take the exam without penalty. They are given no additional time. |
